Rebellion in the West by Mary Drewery
illustrated by William Stobbs
In the early 15th-century, a young squire is plunged into the struggle between the two princes of Wales, Owen Glendower, supported by the disaffected English nobles, and Prince Hal, fighting to save the throne of his father, Henry IV.
Robert Harley, a fourteen-year-old squire serving Sir Edmund Mortimer in the early 15th-century, rides with the army sent to destroy the mysterious Glendower and his rebellious Welshman. When the army is defeated, Robert carries the news to London and enters the service of Henry IV’s son, Prince Hal. He goes alone into Wales to find his lord, is captured by Glendower and is forced to choose between his old and new masters.
Bronwen, a young Welsh girl loyal to the English, helps him and his friend Stephen to escape, and Robert survives dangerous adventures before he rejoins Prince Hal. Robert’s courage and loyalty tip the balance between the two princes of Wales, Glendower, supported by the disaffected English nobles, and Prince Hal, fighting to save his father's throne.
